Stories of the Great becoming Greater
Lionel Messi chose to play soccer as a career that has
taking him to the mountain top of legends. Stories will be told about the Great Messi to
future generations of the beautiful game. Though, in the World Cup in Brazil and
last season overall, Messi was not the bright star we have been used to over
the years. But this season in La Liga the Argentine superstar seems to be very
fit, fast and recharged.
Against Elche Messi looked fresh like lettuce; he was
running and putting pressure on opponents as if he were a rookie playing his
first game. His performance in Barca’s first La Liga game was spectacular. Messi
poured his heart on the field and played with a lot of hunger not only because
he scored two of his trademark goals but also because he made his teammates
look good too.
Another important detail about Messi’s brace is that he is
getting close to breaking a new record. Yes; that’s true, the Argentine star is
only seven goals away from the all-time La Liga record held by Telmo Zarra with
251 goals.
After watching Barca’s game vs Elche last night one might
say that Messi is back. In a sense, it is not the Messi is returning to an
extraordinary performance because he truly never left.
