One day things will be normal in football again.
There will be a time when Ronaldo and Messi hang their
cleats and no longer step in the pitch to play the beautiful game. That day
when these mega stars retire things will be normal again; no more hattricks or
braces, and records will stay for a little longer than a few months.
With Ronaldo and Messi on the pitch we have been train to
expect what used to be unexpected. As fans; we have time and again enjoyed and
witnessed so many goals, great plays, great contribution to the game and so
many trophies lifted for this or that by these magnificent athletes.
But things in the pitch will be normal once again. Either
one will no longer monopolize the FIFA Ballon d’Or award. Because as long as
one of them is still playing none one else would be able to win it. And the 50
plus goals that each one scores on every season will no longer be done for a
long while by another footballer.
For that reason the argument of ‘who is the better one’
should stop. Really. They’re both
phenomenal players to watch with their individual styles. There’s no doubt that
their competition as footballers gets heated and entangle with the rivalry and
legacy of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
They are both different and fantastic players to watch.
Whether one has the ability to make defenders look like folding chairs or the
other one has a rocket launcher on his foot; they’re impressive with their
unique skills and a joy to watch.
As fans whether we like it or not it is hard to see beyond
the years when Ronaldo and Messi will be sidelined. And it is hard to find
which footballers will be the heirs of these footballers out of this world.
